Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora donates to local school for children with special needs

“Diet is important to these children as the school supplies the learners with breakfast and lunch, the only meals for many.”

Usizo Lwethu School in Daveyton recently received much-needed donations from the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora that appeals to the community to continue supporting the school.

The special needs school caters to 420 Down syndrome and autistic children who have various needs for basic special learning aids.

Rotarian Heidi Tucker said not all of these needs can be met by the day-to-day funding available. The club donated furniture, stationery, paint, learning aids, garden equipment and shade cloth.

They also donated masks received from Dis-Chem and face shields, which they received from Sharpline Graphics and Avery Dennison for the learners and teachers.

“Diet is important to these children as the school supplies the learners with breakfast and lunch, the only meals for many.

“While the school has a highly successful vegetable garden the children are involved in, a donor for the regular supply of eggs and fruit is still needed,” said Heidi.
