Network interruptions
The metro is relocating data centres to a municipal-owned building. During this relocation, there will be intermittent network interruptions that might impact the staff and public Wi-Fi.
The metro apologises for any inconvenience caused and assures the public that the services will be back to normal by the end of July 2021.
Stiffer penalty for electricity theft
In a bid to curb the escalating theft of electricity, the metro has increased the reinstatement fines for those who steal electricity through tampering with electricity meter boxes.
Until recently the reinstatement fine was R3 613.79 for residential properties while it was R19 408.15 for businesses.
From July 1, the reinstatement fine for the residential property was hiked to R4 108.79, while the business property is now paying R22 239.80 reinstatement fine each.
The metro’s energy department, collaborating with EMPD, SAPS, and private companies, conducts random auditing of electricity meter boxes in areas within Ekurhuleni.
Those meter boxes found to have been tampered with or bypassed are disconnected and the owners are fined to have their electricity reinstated.
Residents and business owners in Ekurhuleni are urged to plan with the metro if they struggle with paying for their services.
The metro can be contacted via its service delivery call centre on 0860 543 000.
Vaccination sites
The metro wishes to inform residents who are eligible to get their Covid-19 inoculation that the vaccination rollout continues and vaccination sites remain open.
Due to the recent unrest, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and look out for any signs of danger while heading to the vaccination sites.
Nomadlozi Nkosi, MMC for Health and Social Services, said all hands are on deck to ensure the ongoing vaccination rollout is a success.
Those who are eligible are encouraged to bring along any form of identification when visiting the sites.
