Local church brings relief to those in need

Drop-off bins are satiated at the main entrance gate of the church.

The Northfield Methodist Church youth and young adults are grateful for the donations they have received for their Riot Relief project.

Youth Pastor Enoch Mabele said the response received within a week from the community and sister church was encouraging and this will be an ongoing project.

The team is collecting clothes, blankets, toiletries, and food.

The Emseni Methodist, Benoni Central Methodist, Alberton Methodist, local businesses, and Benoni community have all partnered with the church to assist those who are in need.

The Emseni Methodist delivered donations over the past weekend to Montclair Methodist Church in KZN.

Some of the donations were delivered to Vosloorus Methodist to Reverent Phidian Matsepe, as well as to the John Wesley Community Centre (JWCC).

Mabele said the JWCC has identified child-headed households and those who have recently lost their jobs will receive the donations.

“We know these are trying times but we need to united and share the little that we have with others,” he said.

“We appreciate the community and the church’s Mission Department for allowing us to do this project.”

Mission Outreach volunteer Shannon McCallum urged the community to make an effort to help one another where they can.

She added that the riot relief project will continue for as long as there is a need in the community and they will continue helping where they can.
