Case against man who robbed learner postponed

The 32-year-old has been charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The man who was arrested for robbing a 13-year-old learner of his cellphone and “boombox” speaker appeared in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on August 2, where the case was postponed to September 3 for further investigations.

On March 22, the man allegedly robbed the learner of his belongings while the child was walking home.

The suspect was driving a silver VW Polo when he committed the robbery.

The accused was arrested on March 29 in Western Extension after a thorough investigation conducted by Det Sgt Donovan Naicker, assisted by sector managers, led them to the suspect at a gambling venue in Russel Street, where the VW Polo was also found.

The vehicle was searched and a firearm was found hidden inside the air filter of the engine.
