The Ekurhuleni metro is calling artists to register for the Thami Mnyele Fine Art Awards that will take place virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Online registration is open to all who would like to take part in the 33rd edition of the awards.
Member of Mayoral Committee for Community Services Nomadlozi Nkosi said that the metro is excited to host the competition, which seeks to make a difference in the lives of the artists.
They are looking forward to a great competition.
“The Thami Mnyele Fine Art Awards is an annual fine arts competition that seeks to inspire the passion that the late Thami Mnyele had in the discipline of fine arts.
“This is one of the oldest and prestigious awards in the history of the metro and the country at large and it is a platform where artists are encouraged to show their talents,” said Nkosi.
The competition caters to all artists from the age of 18 who can produce great artworks, which will put themselves as well as the metro on the map.
There will be merit awards presented to winners in every category plus an overall first prize of R2 000, which will be awarded to the best and great work done by a deserving artist.
Shortlisted or selected artists will be announced on September 23, and online exhibitions of the artworks will be from September 24 until October 29.
