A brush with local artists: meet Marcia Goodchild

The Benoni Art Route is held on every last Sunday of the month however due to the pandemic, it has been placed on hold until further notice.

They say painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt and poetry is a painting that is felt rather than seen.

This stems from a quote by Leonardo da Vinci. This is also how full-time Rynfield artist Marcia Goodchild feels about her artwork.

The 41-year-old said when she’s painting she is taken to another place where she can be herself and all the worries and negativity of the world are left behind.

Her biggest influences are Van Gogh, Matisse and the artists around her.

She started painting many years ago with acrylic but later moved to oil.

Marcia said what sets her apart from other artists is her approach to her art.

“I have a loose painting style with vibrant colours. You either like my work or you don’t,” she said.

Benoni Art Route (Bar) is open to all individuals who have a passion for creativity in all drawing and painting disciplines, as well as, sculpture.

Upon joining Bar, all members whose work has been approved pay a membership fee towards the end of the year for the following year.

Anyone who wishes to participate in exhibitions after membership closed for a year may apply to exhibit their work monthly as a guest artist upon paying a monthly fee.

A selection committee will then judge the work for approval, following application for membership for the following full year.
