Little ones bid farewell to their classmate

The children bid their farewells to a fellow friend, while parents brought in flowers that will be delivered to the family.

Heartfelt condolences were poured out on Friday (September 17) at Step Up Academy for one of its learners, Linile Mzolo, who died in a car accident on Tuesday (September 14).

Linile was the daughter of Ntombi Mzolo, a media personality, who took to social media on September 16 to pay tribute to her daughter.

“Heaven has gained another angel. God, we trust you to get us through this,” she wrote.

According to Kelebogile Thepa, spokesperson of the EMPD, at about 17:55, there was an accident at O’Reilly Merry and Oak Street in Benoni where passengers were seriously injured and a three-year-old female was fatally wounded.

“A Hyundai H1 in front, a VW Polo, an Opel Corsa and a Chrysler were travelling southerly on O’Reilly Merry.

“The first three cars slowed down at a red traffic light and the Chrysler collided into the VW Polo, and the passenger, a three-year-old girl, was ejected through the front windscreen.”

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, said medics found the girl lying in front of one vehicle.

“Medics assessed the child and found that she had sustained numerous injuries and her vital signs were rapidly diminishing.

“CPR and advanced life-support interventions were immediately initiated to revive the patient. Unfortunately, after 30 minutes, no vital signs returned and the girl was declared dead.”

Principal of the Academy Lisa Botha held a memorial with all the children at the school to celebrate and say farewell to their classmate.

A pastor was invited to pray with the children and when they were asked if they knew what happened to Linile, one learner shouted that she had turned into an angel.

Linile was described as the school’s baby as everyone wanted to hold her, especially the older children.

“She had her special group of friends who she would play with and talk to. She also loved to sing Bible songs as she was a true performer,” said Botha.

The children bid their farewells to a fellow friend, while parents brought in flowers that will be delivered to the family.
