The Daveyton police conducted a search operation following concerns of drug abuse in schools around the area.
The school search was conducted by officers together with the EMPD, CFP, patroller, Ithemba Rape & Trauma Support Centre, Sanca, Gauteng Traffic Police, Pastors Forum, K9 Unit and the department of community safety.
Police managed to search 353 learners at Mabuya Secondary School and 440 at the Daveyton Skills School for children with learning disabilities.
Daveyton SAPS spokesperson Sgt Constance Moalusi said the operation was conducted following reports by schools of several incidents related to drug abuse and dangerous weapons used by the learners during school hours.

Police plan to conduct these operations at all the schools in Daveyton, Cloverdene and Etwatwa.
Moalusi said during the search police managed to assist a 16-year-old learner who had suicidal thoughts.
“The learner was found with razor blades in her possession and she informed the officers that she was going to cut herself. It was not taken lightly and she was immediately assisted and counselling has been arranged for her with a social worker at the Victim Empowerment Centre at the station,” she said.
Police also confiscated dagga, knives, cigarettes, scissors, matches, a piercing gun and hubbly bubbly flavours.
Due to Covid-19 regulations, police used sniffer dogs to avoid contact with the children.
