Putfontein NPO determined to assist those in need
Their main focus is to assist those who have been affected by the pandemic, especially the elderly and the unemployed youth.
Putfontein NPO Mina Nawe Community Care Partners hosted a Health Awareness Day on October 2 to promote healthy living.
The organisation conducted 140 free screenings for blood sugar, blood pressure and deworming for children.
Founder and COO Nick Madi said all of this was made possible by the Christ Church Embassy (Benoni branch) under the guidance of Sr Virgy Hlatshwayo and her team from the church.
“We are currently not funded and we rely more on our pockets for petrol and vehicles when we have to collect clothes and vegetable donations from some of our donors,” said Madi.
“We would appreciate any assistance from the government and private companies so we can reach more communities. We don’t only help our local residents but we also do outreach in Holfontein and Masakhane informal settlement in Witbank, just to name a few.”
The NPO founded in 2020 has 30 volunteers who assist in running different programmes with the elderly, youth and physically challenged residents who need help.
Their main focus is to assist those who have been affected by the pandemic, especially the elderly and the unemployed youth.
Madi said they hand out food parcels, toiletries, wheelchairs and have a soup kitchen once a week. They also assist the youth affected by nyaope to get rehabilitated.
They welcome donations of clothes, food, vegetables, educational toys, stationery, blankets, sanitary pads or anything that can assist them to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Donations can be dropped off at 1983 Mayfield, Extension Five, Putfontein, or WhatsApp Madi on 068 555 6900 or 072 413 8975 or email simphiwemadi@gmail.com or visit their Facebook page Minanawe Community Care Partners.
