Benoni Town Hall open daily for vaccines
Only the Pfizer vaccine is available at the vaccination site.
Life The Glynnwood Hospital is encouraging all those over 18 years old to get vaccinated if they have not yet already done so.
The hospital has staff at the Benoni Town Hall vaccination site, which is operational from 08:00 to 14:00.
Those who are already waiting at the site before 14:00 will still be assisted.
“The vaccination site opened towards the end of May. We have administered over 21 400 vaccines to date,” said Hendrik Swartz, Life The Glynnwood Hospital manager.
“Should an individual arrive at 13:55, we will assist them regardless of how many people are ahead of them.
“On average 250 people are vaccinated daily on-site. This is significantly lower than when the site first opened, with 400 vaccines being administered per day,” Swartz said.
“During this period, we were experiencing increased infection rates due to the third wave of infections, and there was much community concern about the impact of the Delta variant.
“As the third wave continued through June, July and eventually subsided towards the end of August, hospital admissions with severe Covid-19 illness were prevalent.”
When asked what the difference is between the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) and the Pfizer, Swartz said the J&J vaccine is a single dose, while the Pfizer vaccine is a double-dose vaccine.
“Only the Pfizer vaccine is available at our vaccination site and provided to us by the Department of Health,” Swartz said.
Upon entering the Benoni Town Hall premises, the public will be screened, seated in a waiting room if there is a line or sent to have their information captured before being vaccinated.
In the vaccination booth, the vaccinators explain that the Pfizer vaccine will be administrated and provide details of the vaccination date for the second dose.
Once vaccinated, the person is required to wait in the observation room for 15 minutes before leaving.
There are nine booths at the Benoni Town Hall and apart from the marshals, the site manager, Adeep Singh, and clinical site manager, Sr Zizi Nkonyane, are available to assist anyone who is struggling to register for the vaccine.
