A 37-year-old man has been arrested by the Gauteng Traffic Police high-speed unit for reckless and negligent driving during an operation conducted on October 12 along the R21 Benoni off-ramp.
The man was caught driving at an average speed of 182km/h in a 120km/h zone.
He was detained at Benoni Police Station and charged for reckless and negligent driving with an alternative charge of driving more than the prescribed speed limit.

Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson Sello Maremane said they call upon road users to adhere to the rules and regulations of the road.
“As we continue to observe Transport Month, it is important that road users continue to practice road safety. The traffic police through its road safety education unit will continue to intensify road safety education to save the lives of road users,” said Maremane.
In a separate incident on October 13, two men were arrested for theft of a motor vehicle on the N12, Benoni off-ramp.
“The Gauteng Traffic Police Saturation Unit was notified by a vehicle tracking company that a Hyundai H100 was stolen in Middleburg,” he said.
The suspects were also detained at Benoni Police Station and are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.
“The Gauteng Traffic Police will continue to enforce the rule of law without fear or favour. The safety of Gauteng citizens has reached a critical point.”
