Melonie Cloete: As a mother, I would not be happy to hear that my child had received the vaccine without my consent. I believe that we all have a right to make our own choices but as someone that is anti-vaccine, I would not want my child to get one.
Victor Xaba: We look after these children and as parent’s we should be given a right to make a choice for them, just like when we made a choice to allow other shots when they were young. We need to be given the same respect now as they are still children.
Morné Howell: I don’t have a problem with children getting the vaccine as it will protect them as it is used as a second layer of protection. Children should be given the choice of whether they want to get the vaccination, even if it means without their parent’s consent.
Amanda Baloyi: I don’t think it should be done without the parent’s permission but it is a personal choice. I think it is a wise decision to allow the children to get it done as they are more active and interact with children daily.
Altha Gumeyi: I don’t think they should receive the vaccine without the parent’s consent as children at the age of 12 are minors. I know it is the right thing but I believe that it is important for parent’s to be regarded in these choices.
