#Imademymark: Residents of wards 24, 25 hopeful for change

Godright Sekhoela, IEC presiding officer at Petit High School, said some residents arrived as early as 06.00 to vote.

Residents of ward 24 and 25 came out in their numbers to cast their votes at local voting stations early this morning.

The City Times visited Crystal Park Primary School in Ward 24 and Petit High School in ward 25.

The IEC presiding officer at Crystal Primary School, George Mphahlele, said they opened on time and the first resident arrived at 07.15 to mark their mark.

“The local SAPS and EMPD are on site to ensure safety and attend to any issues, however, since 07.00 everything has been running smoothly,” said Mphahlele.

Godright Sekhoela, the IEC presiding officer at Petit High School, said some residents arrived as early as 06.00 to vote.

“We experienced a few glitches, such as some voters being directed to other voting stations due to the change in municipal boundaries, however everything has been going well and Covid-19 protocols are being observed,” said Sekhoela.

First-time voter Thuliwe Kekana (18) said the experience was nerve-racking but she is happy that she made her mark.

“I am hopeful that my vote will make a difference and bring change in my community,” she told the City Times.

Voting stations will be open until 21.00.
