WeThinkCode_ enables Daveyton youngster to design a bright future

The academy, established in 2015, searches for the sharpest young minds in underserved places.

Daveyton resident Zenani Zwane is fascinated by finding errors and getting solutions to solve them.

The youngster is a second-year student of WeThinkCode_ , an independent South African software training academy.

The academy, established in 2015, searches for the sharpest young minds in underserved places, connects them with global thought leaders and cutting-edge technologies and moulds them into excellent software developers.

Zenani said three years ago, she was studying electrical engineering at a Tvet college in the East Rand.

“But while I was studying, my mental health declined. I lost my drive and passion and was in a negative spiral about life. Part of my depression was because electrical engineering was not my first choice and after eight months, I dropped out,” said Zenani.

Luckily, her father told her about the WeThinkCode_ (WTC) training academy and she applied a month after she left college and was accepted immediately.

“I knew this was the right fit because I’d always enjoyed the maths side of electrical engineering and I’m passionate about computer sciences. I now have a positive direction in life because I am good at analysing code.”

Zenani lives with her parents and sister and does travels for an hour to the WTC campus.

Although she has no time for sports or hobbies, she’s upbeat about the future.

“Becoming a data analyst is a good fit for my strengths. I love finding errors in code and helping with solutions for the developers because it improves the end-user experience.”

Another highlight for her was being chosen to do an internship at WeThinkCode_.

“I love it here and am very happy with the support and mentorship at WTC. Being part of this environment inspires me. I can see myself working in a teaching environment. I think I’d be good at helping to create the curriculum and problem-solving for others. I’ve seen what WTC does for students and it makes me want to do the same,” said Zenani.

The academy’s mission is to train Africa’s next generation of software engineers and, in so doing, drive the digitisation of African businesses.

WomenThinkCode_ was established to grow the number of women software programmers in the technology sector. They have placed hundreds of talented individuals within numerous local and international partner companies across a range of industries.
