Looted business gets a helping hand

PCBT replenished stock and replaced specialised equipment.

Several small businesses paid the price when the looting began in July.

This led to Peermont and Emperors Palace’s decision to help a few businesses, including a Benoni one.

Under the project Let’s Build Together, Peermont’s Community Benefit Trust (PCBT) in conjunction with flagship resort Emperors Palace, assisted three small businesses that did not have insurance to cover the damage and theft that occurred.

PCBT invested R750 000 in the Daveyton, Katlehong and Spruitview areas that suffered enormous losses from riot action that left their stores stripped bare.

“One of our pillars in assisting local communities is entrepreneurial development and independent businesses are important not only in providing essential and bespoke services but also for providing job creation to support families,” said trust manager Makomane Ntabo.

PCBT replenished stock and replaced specialised equipment so that the businesses can function optimally again in the communities in which they serve.

The three businesses selected were:
• Posterity Dry Cleaners in Daveyton: received a R250 000 investment to replace washing machines, dry cleaning equipment and chemicals needed to resume business in order to support the employees and their families who work at their branches.
• Mdluli Optometrist in Katlehong: received a R250 000 investment to repair its store in the Sam Ntuli Mall, replace stock and eye-care equipment. Being the only optometrist in the area, it plays an important role in the community.
• Junxion Pharmacy in Spruitview was looted of all its stock and computers. It received a R250 000 investment to replace its stock and IT systems in order to service the community with chronic medication and much-needed Covid-19 vaccinations.
