Make the school year easier with this checklist

You may appreciate a checklist to help stay organised.

After a well-deserved break, routine and structure are often the most difficult things to get a handle on.

Often a lack of organisation can lead to frenzied mornings, which could result in everyone starting the day on the wrong note.

But getting organised does not have to keep you up at night and here are some handy hints to ensure your year is off to a good start and continues to be smooth sailing as the weeks pass by.

• Create a few lists
Keep an ‘always-on list’ items, which should be included are lunch staples, stationery and must-haves for the first-aid kit.
Take inventory of clothing size changes and other more costly items which may require you to budget beforehand.
This should be done termly.

• Jot down important dates for the year
Make use of your calendar by marking off all the important dates of the year you cannot afford to miss.
Share electronic copies of these dates with everyone involved.
Check your calendar regularly and ensure your partner is also informed of what is going on.

• Create a dedicated space for homework
Create a haven for your child where they can enjoy a meal and finish their homework.
Ensure the space is well-lit and allows for natural light, is comfortable and quiet.

• Plan regular play dates
Balance your child’s days out by intentionally planning play dates with their friends.
Regular playtime with good friends contribute to a higher level of confidence but it also helps build a child emotionally and morally.

• Safety first
While it may feel like the pandemic is drawing to an end, be sure your child is not skimping on good hygiene habits.
Make sure your child is armed with a medical-grade sanitiser but be wary of gimmicky brands which may smell great but lack the necessary protection against germs and bacteria. (Information: Dettol/Ogilvy).
