Family and friends remember child welfare’s long serving member

Linnette Elizabeth Lambrecht worked at the Greater Benoni Child Welfare as a volunteer and admin assistance.

The family of Greater Benoni Child Welfare stalwart Linnette Elizabeth Lambrecht who served the organisation for 34 years, have described her as someone who loved unconditionally.

Lambrecht died on February 5 after losing the battle to cancer.

Grandchild Damian Mellet said his grandmother suffered for months with aggressive stage four caecum cancer and intense chemotherapy.

Mellet said Lambrecht was a foster care mother who fostered 120 children even after leaving the Greater Benoni Child Welfare.

“Recognising her selfless work, Rotary awarded her with a Paul Harris award for her welfare work. She was the most wonderful woman who always wanted to help people. Proverbs 31 verses 10 to 31 describes her perfectly. She was a loving mother to her children and foster children. Linnie never saw worst in anybody.”

Mellet shared that she was affectionately known as a miracle woman who survived a brain operation, of which she was given a 1% chance of survival.

“She suffered four cardiac arrests resulting in the fitting of pacemaker with 90% assist. She also survived ovarian cancer.”

Lambrecht, who was married to Louis for 55 years, is a mother of seven children, two daughters and five sons.

She also had 14 grandchildren, three daughters-in-laws and a son-in-law.

“Louis played a role of a caregiver over the past decades during his wife’s illness. Her recent illness had Louis by her wife’s bedside 24/7,” Mellet said.

Greater Benoni Child Welfare director Vanessa Carelse said Lambrecht was a friendly and caring person who always wanted to assist whenever there was a need.

“I think I last saw her in several years ago when she volunteered to assist with our golf day. She was always prepared to help out,” said Carelse.

The director shared that Lambrecht started working at the society as a volunteer then admin assistant and was also a foster mother.
