Community gives centre a facelift

The centre offers invaluable support to the community

Benoni residents joined forces to renovate the victim empowerment centre at the Benoni Police Station on March 5.

According to Manogari Moonsamy of the 200% Foundation, the centre offers support to people who have suffered harm, trauma or loss through violence, crime or socio-economic conditions.

Moonsamy told the City Times that the centre, as it stood, was not conducive to bringing comfort or a sense of safety to victims of trauma.

It was, therefore, decided to give it a facelift to offer a safe space for victims.

“Once completed we will move on to renovate the client service centre as well as mow the lawns,” she said.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said that the centre plays an important role in the counselling and empowerment of trauma victims.

“We thank the community for their efforts. This is a testament that when a community works together, a lot can be achieved,” Sekele said.
