Khanyile gets CGA top job
He won the election with 92 votes against 46 votes for Karabo Mabilo.
Long-time Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) board member Steven Khanyile has been elected to lead the organisation after convincingly winning the hotly contested elections on March 26 at Germiston Stadium.
Khanyile won the elections with 92 votes against 46 votes for his closest rival Karabo Mabilo who was endorsed by road running stalwarts, Lebo and Lebogang Phalula.
The 55-year old has served on the CGA board for 20 years. He replaces James Moloi, who is now the president of Athletics South Africa (ASA). His term will run for four years until 2026.
The organisation’s general manager, Mandla Radebe, said he was happy with the outcome.
“The CGA had a very successful quadrennial elective meeting on Saturday. The electoral meeting was attended by over 100 affiliate clubs who were determined to elect the new leadership of the province.
“We would like to send a special appreciation to the IEC for its great work in assisting us to facilitate the elections,” said Radebe.
