Stellar performance by young cricketers
The club boasted with the most participating teams post-Covid.
Benoni Northerns Junior Cricket club has ended the season on a high note, stating that it was a record year for the club.
According to Johan Kruger, club chairperson, Northerns kicked the season off with 196 players that formed part of 15 teams ranging from players aged six to 13.

“We had five girls joining the squad and their natural talent and enthusiasm were astounding,” he said.
“We pride ourselves in providing a neutral playing field for all players. Everyone is welcome and will have the opportunity to play in our teams.”
He continued by saying that the interest shown by female players is proof that traditional sporting views are being transformed.
“We are a fully inclusive club and based on the performance of our players and teams one can see that those kids are enjoying a happy and balanced environment,” he said.
During the club’s recent prize-giving Morné Labuschagne (11) was awarded the player of the season.
Labuschagne scored 201 runs throughout the season with an 89.5% batting average.
He further took 14 wickets, executed nine catch-outs, and claimed two run-outs and one stumping.
“Labuschagne was a star player this year and we are proud of all of his achievements,” said Kruger.
