Etwatwa man sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment

The victim sustained a stab wound on her arm.

Xolani Mabena from Etwatwa has been sentenced to 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances on March 31 in the Benoni Regional Court.

The 19-year-old was found guilty on February 17.

According to Etwatwa SAPS Sgt spokesperson Khensani Mathebula, Mabena attacked a woman on the evening of September 30 near her home in Emaphupheni, Etwatwa.

The victim’s cellphone, an Appo A15, was stolen during the robbery. She also sustained a stab wound on her arm.

The case was investigated by Const Sanele Mthethwa.

Acting SAPS provincial commissioner Maj-Gen Girly Mbele has welcomed the sentence.

“Const Mthethwa’s work ethic is commendable, as this case was resolved and finalised with a period of six months. Our members remain resolute in fighting the scourge of serious and violent crime against women, children and vulnerable people,” said Mbele.
