KZN FLOODS: DEMS team dispatched to KZN
Their training skills in swift water, confined space, wilderness, structural, trench and high-angle rope rescues will thus be put to the test.
Four members of Ekurhuleni’s DEMS will be joining emergency personnel in KZN to assist with emergency search and rescue operations.
Trained in Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), the team will put their skills to the test while assisting other national teams in the flood-stricken area.
Bafana Masilela (station manager), Pusetso Mosia (shift manager) and firefighters Sithembiso Khoza and Ngwasheng Choene form part of the CoE’s contingency rescuers, specialising in the field of preparation for future global catastrophes caused, either by natural or man-made disasters.
Their training skills in swift water, confined space, wilderness, structural, trench and high-angle rope rescues will thus be put to the test.
“We are proud of our officials making a significant contribution in KZN,” said William Ntladi, DEMS spokesperson.
“CoE emergency services are at the forefront when it comes to USAR specialisation, and our teams have been put to the test during international rescue missions that included earthquakes, tsunamis and floods.”
