Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) officers WO Riaan Nel and Sgt Nick Muller successfully arrested a robber and seized an unlicenced firearm, shortly after the suspect robbed a woman in Baker Road, Edenvale on May 4 in the evening.
According to BFS spokesperson WO Grant Giblin, officers responded to a call about a woman whose cellphone and other personal belongings were stolen by a man driving a Ford Fiesta.
“She was able to provide officers with the registration number and with the help of a local security company, the assailant was spotted in Barbara Road,” said Giblin.
“The suspect was pulled over in Foundry Street, Isando, and was seen throwing two cellphones into a nearby bush.”
Following a thorough search, officers found a 9mm pistol with a filed off serial number.
Investigations into the matter are continuing and the suspect was remanded in police custody.
