Runner still going strong at 63
Nyaka's passion for running began when she was still in primary school.
Etwatwa resident Mpereleng Nyaka has been running for almost her entire life and she said it keeps her calm.
Kick-starting her day on a positive note, the 63-year-old runs every morning as part of her road work exercises.
Nyaka said her passion for running began when she was in primary school.
“I participated in athletics from the age of 10 and I became quite good at it. When I realised I was good at sports, I started taking it more seriously and I trained harder,” Nyaka said.
The mother of four said she ran her first cross-country race when she was 13 years old and she won.

According to Nyaka, it was difficult for her to run while she was still working but after she retired she took her hobby more seriously.
“Now that I’m not working, I go for a run every day, seven days a week, in the morning and afternoon depending on my availability.
“Running has become an integral part of my life. When I don’t run, I feel like a piece of me is missing.
“I truly enjoy running. If everything is falling apart and I feel like I have no one to talk to, I go for a run and I feel better afterwards. Even if I can only run for 10 minutes, I feel complete and happy,” said Nyaka.
