Pad A Girl Organisation hosted a charity run and aerobics in Wattville on May 28 to donate pads to schoolgirls.

The charity run began at Mabaleng Pub and Grill and included distances of five, 10 and 15km.

Thando Andrias, deputy chairperson of the organisation, said the run was initiated after seeing a need in communities.

“We have started collecting sanitary pads for schoolgirls in Wattville who are from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“There is a great need for sanitary pads because we discovered that some schoolgirls are unable to attend school because they cannot afford it.

“We set targets each quarter and then collect the pads and bring them to the school. We have made an impact on many different schools in other provinces as well,” said Andrias.

Members of the Qhubeka Running Club came in numbers to take part in the run on May 28.

He said they are pleased that they have exceeded their target of 500 pads, as they raised a total of 840.

“Instead of donating to one school, we will now be able to donate to two schools in Wattville.

“Our vision is to make a greater impact in the communities while also bringing larger businesses and cooperatives for sponsorship.

“We receive community support, but getting sponsorship would mean a lot to us.”
