Rugby club needs playing and training equipment
"We are asking for old or used equipment such as kit, balls, boots, head and moth guards, tackling bags, scrumming machines and other essential stuff."
The Unity Secondary School Rugby Club is appealing for help with playing and training equipment.
The club is one of the first to bring the sport to Daveyton, said coach Raymond Nkomo.
He added that through its partnership with several stakeholders, including the Valke Rugby Union, an appetite for the sport has grown in the township.
According to Nkomo, they went on a recruitment drive that resulted in their club growing exponentially in the past year.
“Trevor Kumalo and I took on the coaching of the club to develop rugby in the school and community. With the help of Valke Rugby Development’s Jaco Pretorius, we have managed to create a buzz in the township,” Nkomo said.

He stated that his passion is to unearth raw, talented players and develop them into players that will play at the highest level.
“We have seen a lot of hunger and talent. Unfortunately, our players come from disadvantaged homes and can’t afford the equipment. We are asking for old or used equipment such as kit, balls, boots, head and mouth guards, tackling bags, scrumming machines and other essential stuff.
“We want to develop talent. We play in the Department of Education league, St Dunstan’s College winter games, Valke Development league and our girls play in the Ekurhuleni league.”
