SANCA advocates for child protection

"We addressed these issues because most children are unaware that these issues can affect them."

As part of National Child Protection week, SANCA Horizon visited the Mary Moodley Child and Youth Care Centre in Actonville on June 4 to address young people in the area about social issues.

Social workers, Benoni police officers and parents took part in the awareness campaign.

Daveyton manager for community services at SANCA Horizon Fraser Masombuka said the awareness was held to tackle social ills happening at schools.

“We spoke about bullying, drugs and alcohol, to make young people aware of these issues so that they can know what to do in such situations.

“We organised this empowerment campaign to show young people that we care and are there for them,” said Masombuka.

Masombuka said parents were also educated on these issues because they are also affected.

“Parents are sometimes the source of these problems, so we invited them to attend so that they could be informed,” said Masombuka.
