WATCH: Talented Chrissy is finally off to the US
The Ridgewood tween is ready to finally step onto the international stage to showcase her talent
Chrissy J de Beer (10) of Ridgewood College, Rynfield, will finally be able to perform at the International Modelling and Talent Association’s (IMTA) competition in New York, following two years of postponements due to Covid-19.
The young model, singer and songwriter will be jetting off to the Big Apple in July and hopes that her performance may secure her much sought after opportunities within the entertainment industry.
The City Times reported on the sensational young talent in 2019 when she was first selected to attend the IMTAs, however, due to the discovery of the Covid-19 Delta variant and subsequent travel bans, the event was hosted virtually for all South African participants in 2021.
According to her talent manager, Jeanri Mellanby of J3 Performing Arts, she is set to make massive waves on the world stage.
The dynamic tween has been hard at work, honing her skills and has written and recorded two songs, Be Yourself and High 5, which are available on most streaming sites like Youtube and Spotify.
“Both songs were written as I was trying to process what was happening in my life during lockdown,” said Chrissy.
“High 5 is about how I missed my friends as well as being able to be in close contact with them. It is upbeat and was meant to lift our spirits as we were all struggling with the isolation.
“Be Yourself was written when we were able to return to school and I saw many kids struggling to just be themselves and to express themselves in their true authentic way.”
Chrissy aspires to become an established songwriter and dreams of writing and collaborating with the likes of Australian muso Tones and I.
“I have so much respect for Tones and I, her music is authentic, I feel like she pours herself into her songs and the result is upbeat music with a strong message.”
When asked about her download and viewership statistics, Chrissy says she is not too bothered about the numbers.
“I write and perform because that is something that I am passionate about. I am grateful to anyone that views my music and I am happy if it positively impacts them.”
Of her role models, she says that her parents are her inspiration and that their continued support is bringing her closer to realising her dreams.
