Bunny Park fire contained

No structural loss or injuries to the animals were recorded

A veld fire that spread to parts of the Bunny Park was contained due to the quick action of park staff and visitors.

It is reported that on June 29, grass within the emu enclosure caught fire, presumably because of a fire outside the facility.

Visitors at the park notified staff as well as the fire department.

“It was quickly contained and the animals were found safe with no visible injuries or trauma,” said Zweli Dlamini, Ekurhuleni spokesperson.

Motorists and pedestrians are urged to be mindful of discarding cigarette butts around the park perimeter, especially during winter when the grass is dry.

Although no damage has been recorded, visitors to the park fear that the situation may have been worse if it weren’t for the speedy response of the fire brigade and park staff.
