Aurora inducts four presidents
Sylvia Knoop was also inducted as the Anns president taking over from Shenin Chetty
Following a successful tenure in office as president of the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora, Yegalan Chetty handed over the reins to incoming president Kevin Norris, at an induction dinner, held on June 21 at the Ebotse clubhouse.
For the first time, this year’s role of president of the club will be shared among four members, who will each take on the term for three months.
Norris, who has been a long-standing member of the club, will drive this year’s strategy.
During the induction ceremony, attended by members and special guests, Chetty expressed his gratitude to have served as president.

“Before taking on the role, I envisaged a lot of new and exciting ideas and projects, which have been successfully executed,” said Chetty.
Norris said no one is more important than the other, resonating with the saying ‘no man is an island’.
“Those of us who have stepped down may not be as hands-on as they were but they have been very instrumental in its success.
“The ideas that we bring as a group of like-minded people enhance what we should, and in most cases do, stand for – making a difference in the world we live in,” said Norris.

His upcoming plans include fundraising events to ensure the club meets some of the community’s needs.
“We have earmarked the new Rotary area of focus, the environment, as a key driver in our plans for the year ahead.
“We will continue to nurture and grow our Garden of Life project, on the property of the iKhaya da Luz Children’s Home, which has successfully fed many so far.
“Of course, we will also continue to host fellowship events to make sure Rotary remains fun,” said Norris.
In October, Norris will step down and Chetty will take on the presidential role again, followed by Yolande Moseley in January and Lindy van Moerkerken in April.
Rotary Anns
Sylvia Knoop was also inducted as the Anns president, taking over from Shenin Chetty.
Knoop congratulated the four Anns who stood as presidents during 2020/2021, including Angela Norris, Jeanne Woodman, Rachel Ulyate and Chetty.

“We will continue with the Daveyton soup kitchen, the bespoke sewing project in Etwatwa and our food collections every second month at Pick n Pay Sheridan Centre, which are distributed to Angel Wings, Kwaggafontein and other recipients, along with vegetables from the Garden of Life,” she said.
Special awards were also handed to deserving Rotarians who have contributed to the growth of the club.
