BFS shift commander retires

Mokoena retires after 34-years of loyal service

After 35-years of loyal service, Captain Semooe Mokoena is retiring his badge.

Mokoena joined the ranks of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) in 1999 and was promoted to bravo shift commander in 2005 where he led his team with integrity and strength.

He started his prolific career as a police officer on July 1, 1987, at the Thembisa SAPS, after which he joined the Kempton Park Flying Squad in 1995.

During his farewell colleagues paid a tribute to a commander who they said always led from the front

“The firing line is not for the weak,” said a heartfelt message presented to Mokoena.

“The battlefield is for the determined. You have led a pack of wolves and led them through the path of integrity and strength to serve and protect.

“Today you are an honoured soldier who never retreats nor surrenders, it has been an honour to work by your side.”

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, spokesperson for BFS, Mokoena proved to be a true survivor after he was shot twice, while off-duty during an incident that occurred in Thembisa.

“The SAPS has taught me many things in life, to stand on your own trustfully and to be honest,” said Mokoena.

“No matter where I am, or what I do, in my blood I will always be a police officer therefore I will be the first on the line to report crime.”

During an emotional farewell he concluded by saying that he will miss his colleagues who have become like his family and with whom he served proudly.

“His dedication, commitment and passion will be missed by all,” said Giblin.
