A 76-year-old man has been arrested on charges of perjury on July 13.
According to Captain Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the Benoni SAPS, the suspect opened a case of theft of a motor vehicle on July 11.
“He claimed that he took his vehicle to a repair company on Kempston Avenue for a quotation, but upon his return, he found that the vehicle had been stolen,” she said.
“Following a thorough investigation, it was found that the initial statement was inaccurate and that the vehicle had not been stolen.”
The man briefly appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court on July 20 but was released on R1 000 bail.
