Hail storm causes extensive damage at Kids Haven
Three of the houses have been affected
Following a hail storm that hit the city on November 10, management and staff at the Kids Haven Village, Mackenzie Park, noted extensive damage to the buildings’ roofs.
According to fundraising coordinator Susan Daly, the storm damaged the roofs of three houses at the village.
“All the roofs at the village have been painstakingly fixed in the past six to eight months and have proven to be well repaired during the recent rain,” said Susan.
“The hail unfortunately broke everything and all the work has been in vain.”

Daly continued by saying that the children housed at the Mackenzie Park facility are safe and the availability of spare mattresses ensured that everyone was able to sleep in a dry, warm bed.
“The extent of the damage could only really be observed following the storm. Although we do have building insurance we will need to wait for the report from the assessor and raise the necessary funds to cover the excess before repair work can be done,” she said.
“However, the building insurance will not cover the loss of electrical appliances such as TVs, furniture and text books.”
The centre is currently appealing to anyone who can assist with the large scale washing and drying of clothing and blankets that have gotten wet during the storm and subsequent roof leaks.

Anyone willing to assist can contact the donation centre on 011 706 7959 or Susan on 083 442 7717.
