Postbank apologises for Social Grants delay

Beneficiaries can now access payments through several channels that include ATMs, Post Office branches, Boxer, Pick n Pay, Usave, Shoprite and Spar.

Thousands of SASSA beneficiaries suffered a blow on January 6 after they could not access their January 2023 payments due to system glitches.

Postbank has since apologised to social grants recipients who have been experiencing challenges.

According to Postbank Spokesperson Dr Bongani Diako, the Postbank system became untimely unstable – at about 6am on January 6.

This resulted in social grants beneficiaries using the SASSA/Postbank gold card experiencing challenges when performing transactions across the different National Payment System (NPS) access points such as ATMs, retailers and Post Office Branches.

“The system glitches have now been resolved and the grant payments are processing smoothly. Postbank technical teams have been working around the clock to ensure the systems are stable. We, therefore, want to confirm that most of the issues experienced have been resolved.”

Diako said beneficiaries can now access payments through multiple channels that include ATMs, over the counter within Post Office branches as well as retail merchants that include Boxer, Pick n Pay, Usave, Shoprite, Spar and any retailer that has a cash back functionality.

Beneficiaries who have enquiries regarding the SASSA PostBank Powered Gold Card disbursement challenges can contact PostBank at 0800 53 54 55.
