TAG puts starved dog on road to recovery

The actions of a concerned pet owner saved the life of a dog destined to die of hunger

A devoted benefactor of The Animal Guardians’s (TAG) outreach programme rushed to the facility on January 8 asking staff and management to assist a severely emaciated dog at Chief Albert Luthuli.

“According to the man, the dog was simply laying on a discarded couch on a property and he feared that the animal may soon die of starvation,” said Annie Jungmann.

“Upon arrival, we found that the boxer-cross was in a dire condition. We were able to convince the homeowner to complete the necessary paperwork to legally surrender the two-year-old animal to us.”

Max, as he was named, was immediately placed under the care of a local veterinarian and is on a monitored diet to ensure that he receives the necessary nutrition to normalise his digestive system.

Max was severely malnourished when members of TAG rescued him from a home in Chief Albert Luthuli.

“He has since gained 5kg and is interacting with TAG staff, wagging his tail whenever it is snack time,” said Annie.

“We are grateful that through our continuous outreach programmes, pet owners are not only able to take better care of their own pets, but are acting as guardians for neglected and abused animals.”

During his stay at TAG, Max will be introduced to and socialised with other furry residents, allowing him time to regain his strength and trust in human beings.

“Once we are satisfied with his progress he will be made available for adoption,” she said.
