Sunset walk reaches target to help special needs kids
The festive atmosphere added to the success of the walk.
As the sky was transformed to magnificent hues of orange, pink and lilac, supporters of Luke Steytler (6) from Northmead and Bethany Goff (16) of Rynfield turned out in their masses to take part in the ‘Share the Love Sunset Walk.’
Meeting at the Parks Fresh Produce and Pizzeria, Norton’s Home Estate, registered participants took part in the 2km leisurely stroll to raise much needed funds for Luke and Bethany in order to ensure that they continue to receive specialised care.
“Melanie, Bethany’s mom and I met through the support group she hosts for parents of children with special needs,” said Tammy Steytler.
“Her love, care and support has carried me through some of the most trying times.
“Her level-headed guidance has helped us create a happy and healthy environment for our adventurous Luke.”

The walk was originally scheduled to take place on February 4 to coincide with Valentine’s Day, but continuous rain led to the event being postponed twice.
According to Paola van Zyl, owner of the venue, teaming up with Bethany’s Foundation was the perfect opportunity to have participants enjoy a sunset stroll, allowing friends and family to be present in enjoying the moment.
“We are grateful to every person that supported our fundraising effort,” said Melanie Goff.
“Your participation will help us, as parents, to keep up with the costs of ensuring that Bethany and Luke continue to get the care they need.”
Tammy and Melanie further thanked local businesses that sponsored prizes for the raffle thus making the event a huge success.
