Garland celebrates 25 years of fun

The club serves as a meeting ground for like-minded women.

“To friendship, fellowship and a monthly faff” was the toast president of the Garland Ladies Luncheon Club Margie Kostelac bestowed on the club during its 25th birthday celebration on September 28.

Bringing out their bling, members and their guests converged on the Katse Room at Ebotse to celebrate the eclectic club.

The ever-energetic Rhoda Toker, one of the club’s founding members, happily mingled among the tables as committee members collected annual subs and sold raffle tickets.

“The vibe in this room is contagious and puts a smile on every face,” said Kostelac.

“This is what Garlands is about, bringing bubbly women from all walks of life together and allowing them an afternoon where they can socialise, laugh and fill up their tanks.”

Deviating from its monthly format of hosting a guest speaker, the Garlands used the opportunity to share lunch with friends, immersed in conversation.

Looking at those in attendance, Kostelac said that its member pool is unique yet diverse with each woman having an enthralling tale to tell.

“Whether they have just returned from epic adventures, leisurely holidays or overcome personal hardships, every woman has experienced something out of the ordinary,” she said.

The birthday raffle was drawn by waiter Sandile Ngcobo. The winners are (from, left): Lorna More, Debbie Evans and Laura Barnard.

“Sharing these titbits with the Garland family has the power of inspiring another to explore, persevere and experience.”

Despite boasting of a 50-strong membership tally, membership to the club remains open to women interested in joining its ranks.

“Our club is still in good health, but we would love for more young women to join,” said Kostelac.

The club will meet again on October 26. They will host a talk by Mrs South Africa 2022 finalist, Yolandi Naicker. For more information about the club, to become a member or to attend the upcoming event as a guest, email Margie Kostelac at margie.h@mweb.co.za.

Intrepid adventurers share their experiences. Rita Sprenzel (left) recently summited Mount Kilimanjaro as she raised funds for Apricot Tree while Deryl Richardson recently returned from completing a portion of the Spanish Camino.
