Residents in Benoni and Boksburg are urged to take note of road disruptions in parts of both suburbs during the Johnson Crane Hire Marathon at Willowmoore Park on January 28.

Areas that will be affected in Benoni are the CBD, Western Extension, Lakeview, Alphen Park and Farrarmere, as well as Benoni South and The Stewards.

In Boksburg, disruptions can expected on some roads in Impala Park, Beyers Park, Atlasville, Ravenswood and Westwood AH.

Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution and be on the lookout for runners on the road while the organisers, Benoni Harriers, plead with residents to cheer on the participants when they pass through the residential areas.

The Harriers stated there would be marshals along the route and that there would also be a heavy presence of EMPD.

Following last year’s complaints about litter left by the runners, the club has encouraged the runners to throw their waste into dustbins, which will be placed along the route.

“We are on a drive to reduce the litter by placing 400 boxes on the route and water points, with runners encouraged to use the bins and not throw the dirt anywhere,” said Harriers chairperson Ashvin Jivan.

The marathon and half-marathon will start at 05:30 and the 10km and 5km races will follow at 05:45.
