Daveyton kids in van were not kidnapped
Provincial police spokesperson Capt Mavela Masondo revealed that the children were not kidnapped.

The police have set the record straight regarding a video circulating on social media which shows 13 children being removed from a van in Daveyton.
In the video, which suggests that the children were abducted, crime prevention wardens are seen removing the children from the vehicle while community members hurl insults at the driver and another man seen lying on the ground handcuffed.
Provincial police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed that the children had not been kidnapped.
“These were the driver of the van’s children and his neighbour’s children. No case was opened at the police station,” Masondo said.
According to the police, the driver drove to a food outlet in Daveyton to buy meat and that’s where members of the public become suspicious and approached him.
The police were called and the children were taken to the Daveyton SAPS where their parents fetched them.
The MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, also took to X (formerly known as Twitter) on January 13 saying: “We received confirmation from the SAPS that the children were not kidnapped. Their parents knew that they were with Mr Abel.”
The video was reportedly filmed on the evening of February 11.
