Awards recognise excelling Benoni High teachers
The writing is on the blackboard; these are the district’s top educators.
Eleven Benoni High School (BHS) teachers now have the ultimate bragging rights after being named the district’s best educators in their respective subjects.
Teachers, principals and matrics of the class of 2023 from across the district gathered at the school on February 9 for the Ekurhuleni North Grade 12 District Awards.
Those honoured for displaying educational excellence in the classroom:
• Albert Gumbochuma, geography;
• Fanie van der Linde, religious studies;
• Tracy Mills, Rouchelle Spencer, Elmarie Allen, Mumtaz Khan and Joan Smith, English home language;
• Henk Alberts, life physical studies;
• Malcolm Engles, civil technology (construction);
• Anche Davidson, information technology;
• Marcel du Plessis, consumer studies.
Two former matriculants were among those honoured at the event.
Attaining seven distinctions, Sarah Glover placed second in the district’s top achiever category and seventh in Gauteng.
Glover also received awards for being the top student in life sciences and English HL and placed 10th and seventh in the province, respectively.
She has enrolled for a BSc Ecology at the University of Pretoria.
Starting her medical studies at the University of Cape Town, Makagonaishe Rwodzi placed fifth in the district.
