Crystal Park community reclaim park
With mounting support, the organisation is steadily increasing its project footprint.
For years, swings and slides peeked through tall grass and weeds, beckoning the children of Crystal Park to come and play.
As the grass continued to grow, visitors to the park, in Clydesdale Road, dwindled as litter continued to pile up.
However, following a recent mass clean-up, spearheaded by Clean Projects as well as its local ambassador, Mervyn Manning, the laughter of children playing is once again echoing through the area.

“This park is the ideal recreational facility,” said Manning.
“It perfectly lends itself to informal games of soccer, fitness activities, family picnics and afternoon fun to unwind from a long day.
“Unfortunately, due to a lack of maintenance, it became overgrown and filthy and residents did not feel safe making use of the space.”

Heeding Manning’s plea, the green-cleaning-machine which is Clean Projects, members of the community and local security companies recently snapped on their gloves, straightened their caps and set out to restore and revive the park.
Collecting more than 180 bags of litter, foliage and grass cuttings as well as clearing nearly 400m of curbing, the mammoth task has resulted in a recreational facility once again being used for its intended purpose.
“What seemed like an impossible task has transformed the park into a magnificent oasis for all to enjoy,” said Manning.
“Clean Projects have once again been instrumental in mobilising a community to take hands, standing united as we beautify our suburbs, one project at a time.”
