Safe house hosts family day

To make the day fun and memorable, the families played team-building games with their children to form bonds and connections.

The Greater Benoni Child Welfare was a hive of activity when the families of children in temporary care at its safe house, Colin House, came in numbers to spend time with their children at a family day event on May 1.

Social worker Tholakele Ntjatje said the family day was part of their reunification programme to strengthen the relationship between the families and the children.

“Through this event, we want to emphasise the importance of family and remind the children that they belong to a family. It was also to remind the children that despite being temporarily housed at Colin House, they will return to their families at some point.”

Tholakele Ntjatje, the event organiser and a social worker, was the MC at the family day on May 1.

To make the day fun and memorable, the families played team-building games with their children to form bonds and connections. The excited children sang and danced for their families.

The families also toured Colin House to see the environment in which their children live.

To celebrate her 32nd birthday, Dr Nontobeko Khoza, a medical doctor at Far East Rand Hospital, was a guest speaker and donated items for her birthday celebration.
