According to the victim, the employee offered her an exclusive manager’s discount on a gazebo she intended to purchase.
Brian Leroni, senior vice president group corporate affairs for Massmart Holdings, provided the City Times with further feedback following extensive communication with the victim.
“We would like to inform the publication as well as the community of the steps taken following this unfortunate incident,” said Leroni.
“The safety of our customers as well as those visiting the centre is of utmost importance. The centre management has agreed to increase awareness with all tenants regarding scams and overall security in the mall.”
He continues by saying that tenants will be advised of any instance of suspected scammers operating within the mall, what to look out for and appropriate measures that should be taken once an incident of this nature is reported.
“Our Game staff have been made aware of this incident and are tasked to immediately report people posing as Game employees or acting suspiciously,” he continued.
“We have requested to meet with the mall’s onsite security provider to discuss opportunities to improve the public’s shopping experience.”
The victim responded by saying that despite how the incident unfolded, she is happy with the proactive manner in which Massmart Holdings has responded.
“The executive management have been in contact with me and seem to be taking the matter seriously,” she said.
“I hope that these men are brought to book and will face the wrath of the law.”
