Vehicle recovery
A white Ford Ranger was recovered on August 30 in Ivory Park.
Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) assisted Cartrack with the tracking and tracing of the vehicle which had been stolen in Tsakane.
A 39-year-old suspect was arrested.
Firearm recovered
A silver pistol, with the serial number filed off, was recovered on August 31 on the corners of Snake and Pioneer roads, Benoni.
While conducting routine operations BFS officers noticed a suspicious-looking man running in the veld, towards New Modder Road.
Attempts to stop the suspect, led to him dropping a black plastic bag, containing the firearm, before escaping.
The weapon was booked in at the Benoni Police Station and will undergo ballistic testing.
Shoplifting
A 71-year-old man was arrested on September 3 at a shop in Central Avenue, Kempton Park.
He reportedly stole R800 worth of groceries.
Possession of drugs
• A 34-year-old man and his 47-year-old accomplice were arrested in Silohlong Street, Etwatwa on September 4.
Acting on a tip-off members of the EMPD Intervention Unit apprehended the suspects.
They were found in possession of mandrax, meth to the estimated value of R5 8000.
• Six bags of dagga, valued at R30 000, was confiscated on September 4, at the N12 Etwatwa on-ramp.
While conducting routine patrols BFS officers stopped a Nissan UD truck, and both the driver and the passenger fled the scene.
Copper theft
BFS members along with officers from Legendary Guardians arrested two men on charges of copper theft, on North Rand Road, Beyers Park, Boksburg on September 4.
Members of the security company noticed three men climbing in and out of a manhole.
Upon approaching one of the suspects fled the scene in a white Toyota Tazz.
The remaining two were arrested when they were found in possession on copper cabling, which had been removed from inside the manhole, with an estimated value of R60 000.
Water Policing and Diving Services (WPDS)
Divers from the Ekurhuleni WPDS were deployed to a dam on a farm in Holgatfontein, Nigel, on September 4.
It is alleged that a 27-year-old man was seen dancing and chanting while walking into the dam.
The victim was seen going underwater and not surfacing again.
The keen nose of a K9 Search and Rescue dog, Canna, confirmed the location of the victim and a diver was deployed.
Within 15 minutes the body of the victim was recovered at a depth of 2.6m.
Fraud
A 32-year-old man was arrested in Rynfield, on September 4.
The arrest comes after members of the EMPD Bronberg Precinct received a tip-off that the suspect is sought in
White River regarding a case of fraud.
Possession of stolen goods
A 27-year-old man was arrested in Gumbe Street, Daveyton on September 5.
He was found in possession of a welding machine, drill and grinder which was allegedly stolen during a business burglary.
Rapid Response Services (RRS)
Eighty-eight people were arrested during routine concentrated operations conducted by units forming part of the RRS, from August 30 to September 5.
Members of the Flying Squad, Highway Patrol and K9 Units across the province made 51 arrests for assault with the intent of causing grievous bodily harm, shoplifting, armed robbery, fraud, damage to property, theft, attempted murder, murder, possession of counterfeit money, possession of stolen property, pointing of a firearm, rape, possession of house break-in and car break-in equipment, damage to essential infrastructure, contravention of the immigration act and intimidation.
A total of 62 hijacked and stolen vehicles were recovered while 16 arrests were made on charges of being in possession of these vehicles.
One person was also arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
A further 20 arrests were made for the possession of drugs with the intent to sell. Heroine, dagga, cocaine, mandrax and meth were confiscated.
Abandoned vehicles
• A white Toyota Quantum was found on the corners of Xaba and Maseko streets, Wattville. It was reported as stolen in Sandton.
•A white Hyundai i20 was found at the Mooi Cemetery, Norkem Park. It was stolen in Thembisa.
•A blue/green Toyota Tazz as well as a white Kia Picanto was recovered in Mocke Streets, Daveyton. Both vehicles were stolen in the same area.
• A white Ford Ranger was recovered in Daveyton. It was reportedly stolen during a house robbery on a Kwamhlanga case.
• A white Volkswagen Golf was recovered on the corner Kimbolton Street and Prince’s Avenue. The vehicle was used in the commission of a crime in Boksburg North.
