Women’s deaths devastate community
A combined memorial and funeral for the victims will be held on October 3 and 5, respectively.
The Etwatwa community is reeling in shock after a horrific accident claimed the lives of three women on September 28.
The three friends, Thulisile Mahlangu (41), Dimakatso Leboe (34) and Nosiphiwe Mbongwe (34), were reportedly returning from an event when the accident happened on the R555 near Pansy Road and Chris Hani Drive in Etwatwa just after 19:00.
According to metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, it is alleged that a maroon Hyundai Atos was travelling in a southerly direction when it veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a Ford Ranger.
“Two passengers and the driver of the Hyundai Atos were fatally injured at the scene, while the driver of the Ford Ranger sustained serious injuries,” said Dlamini.
Chief Whip of Council Pelisa Nkunjana and ANC members visited the grieving families on October 1 to offer their condolences.
Nkunjana said the visit was to pay homage and offer support to the families during this difficult time.
“As ANC members, we go and show our support whenever a tragic incident occurs in communities. A task team led by the ward councillor was assigned to assist the families as they prepare to bury their loved ones,” Nkunjana said.
She said a combined memorial and funeral for the victims will be held on October 3 and 5, respectively.
