SPARK Rynfield excels at Maths Olympiad
The competition featured over 200 schools from around the country and on the continent.
The SPARK Rynfield learners achieved great results when they placed 12th in the global online mathematics competition, Matific Maths Olympiad, held from July 29 to August 2.
The Grades Three, Six and Seven learners averaged 75.93% for accuracy to end the competition, achieving 66.99%.
The competition featured over 200 schools from around the country and on the continent.
Nolungile Primary School from Khayelitsha claimed top honours and Johannesburg’s Japari School and City Kidz Primary School came second and third, respectively.

SPARK Rynfield was one of the six SPARK Schools at the top, out of the 21 entered by the organisation. They had more than 30 000 learners who completed 636 369 activities and answered 3 181 845 questions.
The competition, which aims to create a love for maths and boost maths outcomes for students while providing actionable data and insights into learning gaps for teachers and educators, had millions of primary school learners from more than 20 countries participating.
Commenting on this achievement, the school’s principal, Vuyelwa Tau, said, “Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally, but from what you do consistently. Our school lives by this. We consistently achieve our best in all that we do.”
It was the first time the organisation participated in the competition since it started three years ago.
