BAC hurdlers display form at CGA meeting
This was the last league meeting before the provincials.
Hurdlers Charnè Erasmus and Lara Steyn were in fine form during the third CGA age-group track and field league meeting at Germiston Stadium on November 9.
The Boksburg AC youngsters followed their incredible league two performances with another display of power and speed as they clocked the top five places in the U13 girls’ 75m and 200m hurdles.
This was the last league meeting before the provincial championships on November 23, where the athletes will compete for places in the CGA team to represent the organisation at the ASA interprovincial championships in Bloemfontein on December 7.
Erasmus won the 75m hurdles in 12.21, while Steyn finished in second place in 12.24. Steyn showed her endurance in the 200m hurdles, finishing second overall in 30.73, while Erasmus settled for fourth in 30.95.

Lea Pretorius finished third in the U11 girls’ 70m hurdles in 12.50 and her teammate Lente van der Westhuizen crossed the line in fourth in 13.13.
Mikayla Booysen finished the girls’ U9 80m dash third overall in 12.04 and was fourth in the 60m in 09.34, while Lian du Plessis clocked 12.71 for fourth in the U9 boys’ 80m sprint.
Marcus du Plessis missed out on a podium in the U11 boys’ 100m after crossing the line in 13.69 for fourth.
On the field, Jansen AC’s Ewald Taljaard once again dominated the U13 boys’ shotput with a throw of 16.12m, beating second-placed Zain Venter (11.65m) and teammate Clayton Kewley, who threw 09.51 for third place.
CGA Track and Field chairperson Maggie Dicks thanked all athletes, coaches, parents and spectators who supported the event, adding the event was a great success and she was looking forward to hosting the provincials next week.
The provincials start at 08:00 at Germiston Stadium.
