Northerns’ Neilson and Thompson on form at race

Both athletes finished ninth in the grandmaster and veteran women’s races.

Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) veteran runners Jane Nielson and Evangelina Thompson secured top 10 finishes in their categories at the Biogen Half-Marathon in Bedfordview on January 12.

Neilson completed the women’s grandmasters (60-69) race in ninth place in 02:10:12.

Mapenza Zondo of Ulinda AC won the event in 01:50:06, while Yvonne Laing of Team Vitality clocked 01:54:59 for second place. Lynn da Silva of Jeppe Quondam settled for the last podium position in 01:57:21.

Thomson finished the veteran women’s (40-49) in ninth place in 01:36:52. Tebogo Mokgosinyane of Nedbank Running Club won the race in 01L27:20 with Ubora AC’s Renata Vosloo second in 01:28:15. Jeannie Henderson of Nedbank completed the top three in 01:28:43.

Lesotho’s Neheng Khatala and Namakoe Nkhasi grabbed the overall honours when they won the men’s and women’s races.

Khatala, of Hollywoodbets AC, won the women’s race in 01:17:10, while Nthabiseng Lekoto, also from the Mountain Kingdom, made it a Lesotho top-two when she clocked 01:19:51. Shanice Feens rounded up the podium in 01:27:15.

It was another Lesotho top-two in the men’s race, with Nkhasi winning in 01:05:53 and Jobo Khotoane securing second position in 01:06:01. The Waterfall AC’s Bennet Seloyi finished third in 01:06:04.
