Police seek owners of suspected stolen vehicles found at workshops in Benoni and Boksburg
Police are urging anyone who may have fallen victim to the scam or has information about the stolen vehicles to come forward.

Benoni SAPS detectives are looking for the owners of a number of vehicles suspected to be stolen, which were found at workshops in Harpur Avenue in Benoni and Paul Smit Street, Boksburg.
This follows the arrest of a 38-year-old mechanic and his 23-year-old accomplice, who are linked to a series of fraudulent activities involving stolen vehicles.
According to Benoni SAPS spokesperson Captain Nomsa Sekele, investigations began after multiple complainants opened cases against the mechanic for allegedly defrauding them of their vehicles, starting in February last year.
“Clients would approach the suspect seeking vehicle repair services and some would pay deposits or full amounts.
“Instead of fixing the vehicles, the suspect would allegedly transport them to a debt review company in Modderfontein or move them to other areas without informing the owners. He would then reportedly close the business and relocate,” said Sekele.

Sekele said many of the reported vehicles were allegedly stolen in Northmead, at a workshop called BT Motors Expert, in 1st Street.
She added that victims later coordinated on Facebook, sharing their experiences.
“A tip-off led police and some of the complainants to a workshop in Boksburg on January 23, where several vehicles were discovered.
“Police also found two employees at the workshop who were initially uncooperative. The premises was ordered to be shut down for further investigation.
“However, an hour later, a worker attempted to break the lock to tow the vehicles away but was apprehended by community members and handed over to the police,” she explained.
The man reportedly disclosed details about their operation, as well as information about another workshop in Harpur Avenue, near Benoni SAPS, and the whereabouts of his employer.
Sekele confirmed that a Sprinter microbus reported stolen earlier this year was found at this workshop, abandoned and stripped.
One of the complainants identified it as their vehicle.
The 38-year-old was arrested on January 23 in Kempton Park.
Seven dockets have been opened against the suspect, but police believe the number of victims could be more.
Police suspect the 38-year-old previously operated in areas including Meyerton, Carltonville, Fochville, Germiston, Benoni and Boksburg.
The police are urging anyone who may have fallen victim to the scam or has information about the stolen vehicles to come forward.
