LETTER: We rolled up our sleeves, so can you
“Communities must create systems that work to bettering the environment.”
Eduardo Lebreux, Farrarmere, writes:
I am a homeowner who is part of the Farrarmere Louis Leipoldt Road community group.
We have spoken to the council requesting pothole repairs in our street as we have a lot of heavy traffic from trucks racing down our street all the time.
Council said there wasn’t budget for the request.
The community group then took it upon ourselves to get quotes from approved product manufacturers, all the owners on the street contributed and we got the supplier to install at a fee.
Maybe homeowners in other streets should also take it upon themselves – not complain and shame our council but roll up their sleeves and do something in building our community to the place we really want it to be.
It’s easy to run a system down, but to be part of the system is much more rewarding.
I hope by publishing this community project others will be motivated to help bettering our Benoni.
